Solaris
Solaris is a green grape variety that we primarily use for dry white wine.
The variety originates from Freiburg in Germany, where it was developed in the mid-1970s as a cross involving Merzling and Gm 6493 from Geisenheim.
Solaris was created as part of the effort to develop disease-resistant grape varieties and shows useful resistance to fungal disease. Varieties of this type are often referred to as PIWI varieties.
Despite having hybrid material in its background, Solaris is classified as Vitis vinifera and has been approved for wine production in the EU since 2001.
At Guldbæk Vingård, Solaris makes up a significant share of our plantings and forms the backbone of several of our white wines.
